I've been part of the Reiki community for good while now, I mind my own business and work on myself. I'm a diligent student, I take nothing on face value (not from my tutor, the queen or more importantly my mum),  I always apply what I'm taught Reiki or otherwise and make my own decision as to whether it works or not, toss out the rubbish and keep the good stuff.

In my opinion channeling is 99.9% pure drivel. I know high profile Reiki masters/channelers who swop made up symbols like trump cards, add on their own bits, put it their courses and claim it's a higher power. I have tested loads of channeled symbols and yes, occasionally, they have an energy of sorts but that pales into insignificance next to the Western Reiki symbols.

So why would someone do that?  Why add and dilute a safe, powerful system?  It baffled me for ages, I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer so it took me a few years to work it out but its very simple, they don't practise their Reiki! They come out of a weekend master's course and are training masters the very next week. 'yeeehaaa'! If they had practised they would know what anyone who practices everyday knows - Reiki works most powerfully and effectively as a stand alone therapy, the original system is complete. Don't take my word for it, apply yourself.

Why is it that all these pure channelers, who claim to have a direct line to Buddha or Mikao Usui, can't speak Nepalese, Tibetan, Sanskrit or Japanese? OK, so presuming these ascended Masters speak English (quite possible) they would at least understand their native tongue, wouldn't you think? and wouldn't the information coming through be verifiable and not just a little secret for the chosen one.

A note to all channelers:  Come on, tell the truth and shame the devil.  You're making it up!  A crocodile wouldn't swallow half the verbal flatulence you throw up, and if he ain't swallowing it, nor am I. Guess I'm dining on my own again, people seem to buy it 'wholesale'. Crazy stuff.

My thoughts on Attunements: With power comes responsibility. Reiki changes your life, no doubt there, thoughts, feelings, emotions and perception, the whole package. Personally I take the attunement process very seriously. Let's be honest, it's a serious business, you're messing with someone's intrinsic make up, their energy thumb print, your changing their life - so it's a little bit important to know what you're doing and get it right. You can do real permanent mental/emotional damage if you don't. Teachers and students, BE WARNED.

That aside! During the attunement process the Master imparts some of his own spiritual essence and information. Now I don't know about anyone else but I don't want some super spiritual bozo, male or female who wears a Reiki crown and doesn't  need to practise (because they're busy channeling from the camels armpit) touching me, let alone imparting anything to me permanently. 

With regard to attunements; within the Reiki community there seems to be a growing 'whack 'em in mentality'.  'Masters' including 'channeled' symbols, different invented procedures, 'bits and bobs from Aunty Mabel's Table', it's madness. I consider this type of behaviour a blatant liberty, if not an outright infringement. You decide for yourself. What do you want? You signed up for a Reiki course, is that what your getting? Are you sure? Be aware - CHOOSE YOUR TEACHER CAREFULLY.

My thoughts on Lineage: Many people seem to think lineage is unimportant or irrelevant; Well, if you haven't got one it doesn't matter.  Attune yourself no less, lots of love and a bit of intention, you'll be well away, you can impart your own spiritual essence and information from yourself to yourself. You can always ask the faeries or winnie the pooh to give you a hand, you might even want to give Aunty Mabel a call and borrow her camel! (book in advance he's a busy boy)

OK ok, enough said. I'm a great believer in love and its potential for healing and growth, but you cannot use it attune someone to Reiki. Intention and its application are often misunderstood, I am a novice, but I understand that intention without wisdom can do more harm than good.

It's not about Reiki snobbery or Real Reiki, it's about correct, safe transmission and tuition of a complete system, it's about honour and respect; respect for your Teachers and as importantly for yourself.

Westerners often wonder why Japanese Teachers are hard to find and so reluctant to share information about their history and culture with the west, I can think of three good reasons:
